Jones Marine is a horrible place to take your boat for service. Dropped my boat off here to have a starter put on and picked it up A WEEK later with a $430 bill. For a starter!
Initially when I called to see if they had time, was told "they can squeeze me in today, looking at about an hours labor". When I brought the boat in the owner told me he was going to pull off my old starter and give me a call that afternoon to go over some options. Informed me that a used starter would be around 100, have the old one rebuilt, or pay roughly 200 for a new starter from mercruiser. I was supposed to have received the phone call that day, which I never did.
The boat was dropped off on Thursday. The shop was closed until the next wednesday, which he failed to mention as well, I still hadnt recieved the arranged phone call so finally I called the shop to find that he had already installed the $200 starter without my authorization, and acted like he had done me a favor for giving me a 15 dollar discount on the starter. Also said that he had traded in my heavy duty arch starter, also without my authorization, which was worth well more rebuilt than the starter he passed off onto me. All in all, $200 for the starter and an additional $230 for installation.
For anyone who knows anything about boats you would know with the proper tools a starter should take no longer than 20 mins to remove and even less to reinstall.
WAS RIPPED OFF BY JONES MARINE, dont make the same mistake I did.
